Trip Overview
General Description Of The Trip
Ausangate (6398m/20991f) is considered one of the most beautiful peaks in the Andes. The region around the mountain offers impressive landscapes of mountains, glaciers, lakes and streams. In addition, the Andean people are very hospitable and respectful of nature.
The farmers have an excellent knowledge in raising livestock such as vicuña, alpaca and llama, all prized for their fine quality wool and meat. The four-hour drive from Cusco to Tinqui is excellent preparation for the differences in temperature and altitude.
Altitude: 4050 – 5100 m

Information Aditional
Ausangate
Ausangate means “copper” in Quechua, although throughout history Ausangate has been called by different names, such as The Roof of the Inca Capital or Vinicunca (“hill of colours”). Today it is known as Rainbow Mountain, Cerro Colorado or Montaña de los 7 Colores.
Location
Ausangate is located in the Vilcanota mountain range, in the eastern part of the Andes. The summit of Ausangate mountain is situated at an altitude of about 6,400 metres, but you don’t have to go that far to admire the beauty of this colourful mountain, from the pure white of the snow to the bright red of its soil, the green of its meadows or the blue of the surrounding waters.
