Additional Information

Lima

The city of Lima, the capital of Peru, is known as the gastronomic capital of South America. Visitors to Lima are delighted by the enormous variety of delicious dishes and the renowned Peruvian cuisine served in its restaurants.

However, gastronomy is not the city’s only attraction. Lima is one of the most important and visited regions in the country, offering countless activities, tourist attractions, and cultural experiences for all types of travelers.

Strolling through Lima allows you to discover its colonial history, modern neighborhoods, important museums, and a vibrant cultural life that makes the city an unmissable destination in Peru.

Cusco

Cusco, known in Quechua as Qosqo, is an ancient Inca city located in south-central Peru. It is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Western Hemisphere.

The former capital of the Inca Empire preserves much of its impressive stone architecture. In 1983, Cusco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its enormous historical and cultural importance.

Walking through the streets of Cusco is like traveling back in time. Every corner of the city tells a story, and its ancient stones have remained intact for centuries, bearing witness to the past of the Inca Empire.

Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 meters above sea level (11,150 feet). The climate is usually dry for much of the year, and frosts are rare even in the coldest months, such as June and July.

The rainy season generally occurs between November and February.

Places Visited During the Family Cusco Tour

Maras

The Maras Salt Mines is an impressive complex of salt ponds that was already used since the time of the Inca Empire for salt production and for commercial exchange between Andean communities.

From the town of Maras, it is possible to visit the famous salt mines via traditional trails. Today, the salt ponds are still worked by local families and produce the well-known salt of Maras, considered a true treasure of the region.

Moray

Near Maras lies the impressive archaeological complex of Moray. According to historians, this place functioned as a true agricultural laboratory for the Inca Empire.

The circular terraces were built with irrigation systems and create different microclimates. The temperature can vary up to 15°C (59°F) between the top and the bottom of the depressions, allowing the Incas to experiment with the cultivation and adaptation of various plants.

Moray is located approximately 50 km (31 miles) from the city of Cusco, on the route that leads to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu

The impressive citadel of Machu Picchu is made up of enormous stone blocks perfectly fitted together. This place was one of the most important religious, political, and cultural centers of the Inca Empire.

Machu Picchu was built around the year 1450 and revealed to the world in 1911 by explorer Hiram Bingham.

Located at an altitude of approximately 2,430 meters (7,970 feet), Machu Picchu is considered one of the greatest architectural achievements of the Inca Empire and today is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world.

Qorikancha

The Qorikancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun, is part of the traditional City Tour in Cusco and holds great historical importance.

According to chroniclers from the colonial era, this was one of the most impressive buildings in Inca Cusco. Its inner walls were covered with gold sheets, as the temple was dedicated to the sun god, the most important deity in the Inca religion.

Today, Qorikancha represents a fascinating combination of Inca and colonial architecture, being one of the most visited places in the city.
